By growing local farmers, Roots Memphis Farm Academy aims to stimulate the Mid-South local food system by providing a way for individuals to enter the farming world more easily. The current average age of a farmer is 57 and increasing, and our country has fewer small family farms than ever. By growing farmers, our communities have greater access to local, chemical-free food while encouraging our local economic development. Find out more about our goals for our community.

To train and launch new beginning farmers in the Mid-South

Grow and distribute ethical and clean food in order to grow the local food system and develop our local economy

The triple bottom line of people, planet, and profit. We are proving environmental, economic, and social sustainability, where social returns meet economic returns.

Our farmers go through a six-month intensive training course, filled with business and sustainability classes, all culminating in a business presentation. Check out the full process of growing growers here

This season we've got eight determined farmers growing for our CSA and markets, practicing their growing skills and expanding the local food system. Read about them, or drop by our markets to meet them.

From The Farm

Our certified naturally grown produce is grown on 5 acres of wide open land in Shelby Farms Park, right here in Memphis, Tennessee. We see our crops through every step of the way, ensuring that our methods are environmentally friendly and the highest quality possible. The produce, herbs, and flowers that come from our farm are hyper-local, hyper-fresh, and chemical-free.
